For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. (Romans 8:5, 6 NKJV)
The Word makes it clear that your experience, your surrounding, everything about you is basically a result of the way you think. When you think spiritually minded thoughts, you get life and peace. When you don’t, you get death.
Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, (II Peter 1:2 NKJV)
This confirms the principle that your thought life produces a harvest in the natural realm. People are looking for peace to come externally from the outside of them into their circumstances. 2 Peter 1:2 reveals that peace comes through the knowledge of God. Peace in your life isn’t the absence of problems or challenging circumstances around you. God’s kind of peace is there, even in the midst of a storm. It resides on the inside. The peace on the inside of you will begin to change your circumstances on the outside.
For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. “Eat and drink!” he says to you, But his heart is not with you. (Proverbs 23:7 NKJV)
And that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth. (Ephesians 4:23, 24 NASB)
I know how you like to go outside at night and gaze up at the stars; how the mountains take your breath away; and how the sun setting over the ocean thrills your heart. It’s wonderful to look at the universe and see God’s beauty. But now consider a much more precious design than all of these things: You!
Not only are you God’s most prized creation, but God had you in mind all along while He was forming the universe. God made you in His image so we could have a relationship with each other. God formed your mind so you could think; God gave you words so you could speak; and God gave you a heart so you could dream. You are His own, the one that He loves so much and of whom He is so proud.
What are you worried about that hasn’t happened yet. Are you worried about your children? Are you worried about your your medical report? God does not want you to worry about tomorrow. He wants you to know that He gives you all the help you need for today, and when tomorrow comes, so will help from Him.
This is God’s principle even in the Old Testament, when the armies of Moab and Ammon came against King Jehoshaphat, God told the anxious King, “Do not be afraid nor dismayed for the battle is not yours, but God’s. You will not need to fight in this battle just stand still and see the salvation of the Lord.” (2 Chronicles 20:15-17)
When the next morning came, King Jehoshaphat saw how God caused such confusion to come upon his enemies’ camp that it brought about their own slaughter. All that fighting in the enemy camp. God’s people merely stood still and saw Him fight the battle for them just as He had promised. If you see a problem looming in your tomorrow, don’t be afraid or dismayed. Look to the Lord, and see His grace and salvation deliver you.
God wants you to live a stress-free life, not one filled with worries about tomorrow’s problems. When tomorrow comes, His grace will be there for you as your help, protection, favor and enabling!
